🍀Book Questions
Tell us your latest news?
Right now I am busy working away on the final book in my
Game On series which is to be released in late July! I'm looking forward to the
release but will be sad to say goodbye to these characters! I'm also working
with some amazing authors (and some who are attending Claddagh!) on a romance
anthology in aid of the Innocence Project!
What book are you reading now?
Let Love In by Melissa Collins
Your books are so emotional. How long does it take for you
to be able to get the characters out of your mind and move on to the next?
Good question! It does take me a long time to settle after
writing an emotional scene/book because like a lot of authors, I really live
inside my characters' heads so I have to feel what they feel. If I'm having a
good day, I can kind of push the characters out of my mind in a day or two, but
if I'm feeling a little blue myself, it takes a good week or so to move on.
Are the names of the characters in your novels important?
Yes and no. They rarely have a significant meaning in the sense
that I don't look up name meanings to see if they fit but I do go through a LOT
of names when I'm writing a new character because I like to find something that
really feels right.
What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as
a writer?
Alcohol! LOL, just kidding! I think all writers need to make
sure they really take care of themselves in whatever way works for them. For me
it's often a hot bubble bath to unwind, or a walk by the sea to clear my head
from whatever I've been writing about. So, really, its just about remembering
to step away sometimes and doing something just for you.
What is the most demeaning thing said about you as a writer?
Haha, oh the list is long! One of the most common things I
hear is, "You should get a real job." I have a real job - and writing
is part of that!
How do you react to a bad review of one of your books?
There is always a very physical reaction when I see a bad
review. My heart sinks and then beats really fast - I think it's an adrenaline
thing lol. In my mind, I read and absorb, I think about what has been said and
I try to find something constructive I can take away so I can work on that next
time. Some bad reviews aren't constructive at all, and those are the ones I try
not to take to heart. Ultimately, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I have
learned to accept that.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The first draft. I am certain I'm not normal in this area
because most people love the first draft. For me, it's like being tortured. As
soon as that first draft is down, I'm good to go!
Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was
it?
I feel like I learn a lot about myself when I'm writing.
Most writers will inject a little of themselves into their writing, and I find
that I unintentionally dig up little snippets of information about myself that
I'd either forgotten about, or hadn't even realised.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to
grasp?
Again, not intentionally. But there is often a strong
emphasis on friendships in my books, and I think it's super important to make
strong bonds with people throughout life.
Have you ever read or seen yourself as a character in a book
or a movie?
LOL, yes, often!
Describe in 5 words, your writing:
Emotional, fun, relaxed, sometimes intense.
What do you use to write your book?
My laptop in the winter, and pen and paper in the summer so
I can sit outside!
Do you listen to music while you write or read?
Yes. I have a writing playlist which I always listen to when
writing.
If you could write with any other author(s) who would it be
and why?
Ker Dukey and D.H Sidebottom! They are so delightfully
twisted - I'd love to work with them to find out how their minds work!
🍀NON- BOOK QUESTIONS
When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew
up?
A fashion designer or an author.
Did/Do you have a nickname?
Not really - I'm quite boring in that area!
What are your pet peeves?
Rudeness. I just don't understand people who are impolite and can't treat
others with decency.
What is your favourite coffee shop drink?
I am a tea drinker only!
What's your favourite tv show?
Friends (yeah, I know it's over but it's still brilliant!)
What is your favourite kind of cookie?
Raspberry and white chocolate
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things
would you have and why?
I would not cope well on a deserted island without wi-fi! So
I guess I'd want a flare, a boat and a life jacket! :p
Where would you go if you had a time machine?
Oh, I would love to have lived through the sixties! The
music, the clothes... I would love to visit that time!
Which is your favorite quote?
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to
live." - Albus Dumbledore ;)
If you were an ice cream what flavor would you be?
Something like mint choc chip - sweet but with a bit of
zing! :p
