Claddagh Author Interview With A.V. Scott

Book Questions

Tell us your latest news?
Currently writing a romantic comedy.
What book are you reading now?
I try not to read books while writing my books. But, once I'm done writing my next book I plan on taking a break and catching up on some reading.

Your books are so emotional. How long does it take for you to be able to get the characters out of your mind and move on to the next?
For me, it's not difficult to switch from the minds of the characters I write about because they live in my head like a movie. I'm just the medium they use to have their story told.
Are the names of the characters in your novels important?
 Very important.
What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?
Knowing when to step away from the computer and take a break. I think most writers want to hurry up and finish writing their first draft, but sometimes scenes can be difficult to write. Taking a break helps you to refocus.
What is the most demeaning thing said about you as a writer?
I think when people assume you make thousands of dollars and can afford to give away print copies of your books to everyone. I don't mind the occasional giveaway or gifting a book to a friend, but when people assume authors can give their hard work for free it demeans our work.
How do you react to a bad review of one of your books?
 I don't read reviews.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
 Writing the book.
Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
Keep writing. Every day. No matter how hard it gets.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
 No.
Have you ever read or seen yourself as a character in a book or a movie?
 No.

Describe in 5 words, your writing:
 Different. Exciting. Deep. Funny. Real.
What do you use to write your book?
 Scrivener
Do you listen to music while you write or read?
 Sometimes.

If you could write with any other author(s) who would it be and why?
 I don't necessarily like collaborations.
